PROJECT CONTENT AND BASIC INFO

ABSTRACT

Most Member States, and European regions, have introduced measures to boost RES generation and storage in their regional RIS3 strategy, national energy strategic plans and their respective regional programmes, for Investment for Growth and Jobs, but most of Members States are below the expected RES 2020 targets.

RES are not growing as expected, and States are not looking for new solutions such as energy storage or innovative financial schemes.

RES sector is requiring new supporting schemes, capable of unlocking the great potential of private investment by overcoming the financial, legal and administrative barriers in decentralized investment for both, RES generation and storage.

GENERAL

DESCRIPTION

The project aims to support coal-intensive regions to: a) go through the clean energy transition without detrimental impact on economic and societal stability, b) assess regional specificities (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats), so as to put forth development and innovation policies to stimulate growth, and c) meet their CO2 targets and secure their role in the 2030 energy mix.

To this end, the project has the following operational objectives:

·         Assess and analyse territorial impact, and increase the knowledge and capacities of public authorities on exploiting territorial growth opportunities.

·         Support the development of plans for private investments in the clean energy sector and public subsidies, as well as investments on clean coal solutions.

·         Promote public dialogue to resolve conflicts, build consensus, and raise awareness on how to regionally implement the clean energy transition.
