Extremadura to host FEDARENE’s general assembly in 2027

The European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE) has announced that Extremadura will host its 2027 General Assembly. The bid submitted by the Extremadura Energy Agency (AGENEX) has been selected, meaning that the regional agency will serve as host of this major European event.
The announcement was made this week in the Italian city of Modena, where the 2026 General Assembly was held. More than one hundred representatives from energy agencies and organisations involved in the energy transition and climate action attended the event. Rachel Tully, European Projects Officer at AGENEX, presented the main details of the next edition, which will take place in May 2027.
This year's assembly addressed some of the most pressing challenges facing Europe’s energy transition, including energy poverty, energy-efficient building renovation, energy communities, climate project financing, and industrial decarbonisation.
Founded in 1990, FEDARENE is the leading European network of regional and local energy and environment agencies. It currently brings together more than 90 members from 24 European countries. The federation acts as a direct bridge between regions and European Union institutions, supporting cooperation on climate neutrality policies and access to EU funding opportunities.
Recognition of AGENEX’s work
AGENEX formally joined FEDARENE in 2023 during the General Assembly held in Kilkenny, Ireland. The network also includes thirteen other Spanish regional and local energy agencies, including those from the Basque Country, Castile and León, and Andalusia, which joined this year.
The selection of the Extremadura bid as host of the 2027 General Assembly represents an important recognition of the work that AGENEX has been carrying out in the fields of European cooperation and the energy transition over recent years.
Hosting the event will also provide an opportunity to showcase the progress being made in Extremadura in areas such as renewable energy, self-consumption, and energy efficiency in public and residential buildings. In addition, the assembly will help strengthen cooperation with organisations from across Europe and support the development of future European funding initiatives and partnerships.
