Most of the primary energy consumed in Spain still stems from fossil fuel sources, whereas the Spanish electric system has a high rate of penetration of renewable energies. In this regard, Extremadura is a national and European reference as it produces four times more electricity than it consumes, being mostly free of greenhouse gas emissions, due to a high percentage of renewable energies in its energy mix.

AGENEX participates in an event of the COMMIT project in Slovenia to facilitate the decarbonization of SMEs

The aim of this meeting was to share strategies and policies to support the transition of small and medium-sized enterprises towards a low-carbon economy, as well as to present the work carried out during the first semester of the project.

AGENEX has participated in the conference organized by the European Investment Bank, explaining, as an example of good practices, the experience in Extremadura with the ELENA program.

On February 1, the European Investment Bank (EIB) organized in Madrid the information day of the ELENA subsidy mechanism, in which the Extremadura Energy Agency (AGENEX) has been invited to explain the experience carried out in Extremadura.

39% of the energy produced in Extremadura is already of renewable origin

Extremadura reached an electrical energy production of 26,251 GWh in 2022, which is 6.33% more than in the previous year, a new all-time high, and exceeding regional demand by 561%. The production of renewable origin accounts for 217 percent of the demand. Only with photovoltaic energy is 148% of the regional demand reached.

Extremadura hosts the first Interregional events of the Interreg Europe ShareRES and MonitorEE projects

Both projects are led by Agenex, and deal with important issues in our region such as consumption monitoring in buildings and energy communities.

Extremadura will update this year the Integrated Regional Energy Plan to provide greater coverage for self-consumption and green hydrogen.

In 2022, the record for installed megawatts and investment was broken again and more than 5,000 self-consumption installations were legalized. A new regulation was also approved to regulate the use of lithium and another that declares the production of hydrogen to be of general interest.
